Service Quality Assurance features
Adaptable modeling and inventory - a core foundation for automated OSS
The adaptability of the Service Quality Assurance modeling approach is provided through a definition language (XML-based) made accessible to telecom operators or system integrators in order to extend the solution with various types of services and contracts. The service inventory gathers live descriptive data about the customers, services, network elements and contracts. The Service Manager and the SLA Conformance Controller, both designed as data-driven applications, are automatically suited to the actual models for services and contracts.
Service Manager
The Service Manager controls the content of the service inventory. A front-end GUI (OpenMaster for Telecom Java Station technology) enables browsing through customers, services and contracts: creating, deleting and modifying are possible. The front-end provides a focal access point to the whole set of applications (OpenMaster for Telecom or partner applications). Because it includes the role- based management technology, the Service Manager front-end is available to both service providers and their customers. The Station for Java technology also includes features such as customizable pop-up menus, live animation of objects,...
SLA Conformance Controller
The SLA conformance controller integrates a set of specific menus and displays in the Service Manager front-end. It is dedicated to the measurement of the actual Quality of Service, as provided by the infrastructure, and to the reporting of QoS conformance to Service Level Agreements, including automation of corrective or proactive management operations. Raw Quality of Service indicators can be collected either using OpenMaster for Telecom generic components, by means of direct access to network elements, or through the use of third-party tools deployed within the OSS, element managers or dedicated applications. This is also part of the model definitions in order to guarantee full adaptability of the solution.
Reporting
The SLA Conformance Controller application makes use of OpenMaster for Telecom Report. This tool provides a flexible environment for running standard and custom reports on a scheduled or ad-hoc basis, publishing and distributing reports in hard-copy or electronic form and storing the aggregated data in a relational database.
Automation
As a result of the verification of SLAs, automation is initiated by generating events. These events either report SLA violations, or warn about abnormal condition (SLA jeopardy) that operators should consider for pro-actions on the network. Automation can be handled by the Event Processor and Correlation Engine components of OpenMaster for Telecom. For instance, a search of the root cause of the observed condition can be performed before notifying re-configuration application. Events can also be forwarded to any external OSS process for further consideration.
Solution Builder
Solution Builder provides a set of APIs that can be used for extending the solution by developing new data-driven applications that access model definitions and object instances, building interaction mechanisms with other OSS functions, or integrating external collecting tools for the SLA Conformance Controller application.
