The company

Lockheed Martin Global Telecommunications (LMGT), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Lockheed Martin Corporation, is a premier global provider of network services and advanced technology solutions to enterprise, commercial and government customers. LMGT is headquartered in Bethesda, Md., and includes the satellite, network and product assets of the former COMSAT Corporation, which formerly managed the INTELSAT network and is now part of LMGT.

LMGT Systems & Technology Division offers network design, wireless communications and network security along with technical consulting services to provide customized, value-added solutions to enterprise customers. The line of business combines Lockheed Martin's network systems development capability with COMSAT Laboratories, a pre-eminent developer of advanced communications technologies.

The critical issue

LMGT are implementing a new generation of management systems for INTELSAT. The challenge faced was to improve the management of its time division multiple access (TDMA) networks, which are used by major telecommunications carriers to transmit their public telephone services worldwide.

The solution
